Zambezi River The Zambezi River below the Victoria Falls is internationally acclaimed as the best white water rafting experience in the world. The rafting takes place in the gorges below the Falls and at certain times of the year clients can start directly under the waterfall, in the 'boiling pot'. The river drops about 400 feet over a 24 kilometer (14.9 miles) stretch and is regarded as a high volume, pool-drop river i.e. the rapids have few exposed rocks and below every rapid is a pool to aid recovery. A fully qualified and highly experienced white water oarsman guides each raft. Safety kayakers to assist in rapid recovery in the event of a raft capsizing also accompany each trip.
Surfing and Wave Boarding There are other adrenaline options on the Zambezi below the Falls. River boarding is conducted on the same stretch of river as the rafting and is an incredibly exciting experience. Basic river boarding skills are taught in still water before progressing into moving water and varying degrees of white water rapids. Perfecting the art of 'surfing' a wave is the objective. Tandem kayaking is another dimension to the white water experience on the Zambezi River where clients are taken down the rapids in Topolino duo kayaks. An experienced white water kayaker will guide and steer the boat through the rapids while the client 'just enjoys'.
