Microlighting over Victoria Falls

The ultralight is a cross between the fixed-wing and microlight experience with one passenger at a time being taken up in this small aircraft. It is quieter than the microlight and you can take your camera on board. Thirty-minute trips are offered on the ultralight, which is available only on the Zimbabwean side of the river. The excursions take off from Victoria Falls airport.

Many locals feel that the microlight flight over the Falls is the best aerial experience, as you are exposed to the elements and can “feel” the Falls.

As one tourist remarked, “It’s you and God and the pilot in a lawn mower with wings 1?500m above the ground”.

Microlight flights are available in 15-minute and 30-minute excursions, the latter flying over Batoka Gorge.

Be aware that you are not allowed to take a camera up in a microlight as dropping it could be hazardous to the plane as well as people on the ground. You can get your picture taken during the flight by remote camera, and the images are available for purchase afterwards.

Microlight flights are highly weather-dependant, so check on times and departure points.

Flights are available from both Zimbabwe and Zambia.
